Natural regeneration is already being protected

On April 26, 2023, a new method was introduced to safeguard the natural regeneration of the holm oak trees from grazing activities and promote their vertical growth, the Cactus Protector.

These protectors, resembling thorny shrubs, were placed in the field as a non-harmful deterrent for animals. Composed of a galvanized steel mesh covered in prickly spikes, the protectors discourage grazing animals from approaching the trees. When an animal comes into contact with the protector, it experiences a harmless impact that helps to establish a boundary. As a result, the animal learns to respect the protector and the plant it safeguards.

This solution provides an alternative approach to protect the natural regeneration of the holm oak trees, a critical process for maintaining biodiversity and restoring ecosystems. By safeguarding the saplings from browsing animals, we aim to support their vertical development, enabling healthier and more resilient ecosystems.
